The new Aquatic facilities at Northam Recreation Centre join a long line of collaborative Aquatic Centres created by Airey Taylor Consulting in conjunction with Donovan Payne Architects. NDY provided the Mechanical Engineering services, and the facility was brought to life by Cooper and Oxley with Commercial Aquatic Australia pools.
The new additions involved Structural and Civil design for a 50 metre, 8 lane outdoor solar heated Olympic pool with ramp access for accessibility; a smaller 25 metre, 4 lane solar heated leisure pool also with ramp access; 4 water slides, splash pad and children’s play area; outdoor showers and change rooms; grandstand and viewing areas; general shaded areas and BBQ’s; as well as plant room facilities, fencing, roads, associated drainage and façade engineering.
The premium facilities have Northam Recreation Centre arguably becoming the sporting hub Western Australia’s residents and competitions in the wheatbelt. The new Aquatic area supplements the existing gym, spacious indoor sporting facilities and support for two ovals. Since creation, the facility has hosted a number of swimming carnivals for both sporting elite and local schools. Swimming lessons, water exercise programmes and early morning swimming sessions are held at the pool.
The local community have responded positively to the new Centre, with comments on the Google site reviews stating “The new aquatic complex is amazing” and “The pools are so good… the kids absolutely love it” and “Exceptionally good value, impressive features considering regional location” amid a total 120 reviews averaging 4.4 stars.
Airey Taylor Consulting are pleased to continue their track record of creating aquatic facilities of excellence for the Western Australian community and hope this facility serves as a benchmark for regional recreation centres in the State.
