Post Tensioned Concrete

Airey Taylor Consulting have 50 years design experience with post-tensioned concrete on both Australian and international projects.

Reducing Steel, Cracking, and Costs with Post-Tensioned Concrete

We use post-tensioned concrete on projects ranging from skyscrapers, major commercial centres, hotels, health projects, multi-level residential, centres, offices and large-scale industrial facilities.

Benefits of using post-tensioned slabs

  • Large reduction in steel reinforcement required with large cost savings
  • Minimised slab cracking for less permeable and more durable slabs
  • Longer spans can be used reducing the number of columns required
  • Overall structural cost is reduced
  • Reduced floor-to-floor height due to thinner slabs
  • Undesirable deflections under service loads are eliminated
  • No further waterproofing required
  • Early formwork stripping enables faster construction cycles
  • More economical column and footing designs

Advantages of Post tensioned concrete

The use of post-tensioned concrete provides elegant thickness slabs with good deflection control for large spans that reduce the required numbers of columns, structural cost and floor-to-floor height. This leads to larger uninterrupted floor space and more cost-effective structures including more economical columns and footings.

Streamlined Construction Through Post-Tensioned Technology

Construction speed is significantly increased over the use of reinforced concrete. Formwork can be removed earlier and it is possible to start building directly upon the slab within three days of casting.

Post-tensioned concrete drastically reduces the requirement for steel reinforcement. Projects can anticipate significant savings due to streamlined project delivery and earlier stripping times.

Because post-tensioned concrete eliminates cracking, the concrete is intrinsically waterproof and requires no membranes even on roof slabs. Reticulation of services is easier to achieve with post-tensioned slabs and will give the project a lightness of structure that enhances other structural efficiencies.

The Airey Taylor Consulting Design Difference

While many Engineering firms provide only sufficient information to request a pricing tender from a third-party specialist Airey Taylor Consulting will provide you with full documentation of post-tensioning to a standard where you can build directly from the plans. We are the only Engineering firm that detail the location and profile of post-tensioning of tendons, which is the costliest part of post-tensioning. We deliver this information upfront so you can take full advantage of this detail and obtain accurate market pricing prior to construction.

Proven Results Through Post-Tensioned Design

Successful Projects

Award winning designs using our post-tensioned concrete solutions include for Cockburn Central Shopping City Stage 3 in Success and The Colonnade Shopping Centre in Claremont. Post-tensioned concrete design coupled with a Value Engineering approach produced significant structural efficiencies on both projects and both won best in class in National Master Builders Excellence in Construction Awards in the year of completion.

Other iconic projects featuring our post-tensioned concrete design include the QV.1 Tower in the Perth CBD (recent winner of the prestigious Richard Roach Jewell Award for Enduring Architecture) and Crown Towers resort in Burswood (Perth’s largest hotel and only 6 star facility in Western Australia).
