Peter Airey BE GradDipAdmin FIEAust CPEng RPEQ, Managing Director of Airey Taylor Consulting – presented three papers to the Australasian Structural Engineering Conference of 2018 (held between 25 September – 28 September 2018 at Adelaide Convention Centre). His presentations were for the topic ‘Forensic Engineering – Lessons from failure or success.’
The third of these papers was entitled “Investigation of vibrations at two Pilbara mines”, and is an examination of the results of forensic engineering studies to apparent vibrational damage to the structures of a Crusher Building and a Wet Scrubbing and Screening building. This presentation is number 142 on the conference program.

“As a start point, the analysis requires knowledge of the machine operating frequencies and they were, for the Single Deck Screen, 900 plus or minus 10% revs per minute (13.5 Hertz is considered). For the Double Deck Screen, 802 plus or minus 10% revs per minute, 12 Hertz is considered and for the Scrubbing and Screening the drive 1,500 revs per minute (25 Hertz is considered) for the Pinion, 281 revs per minute, 4.68 Hertz is considered and for the Mill, 15.15 revs per minute.”
